Community Doula Programs

Building Community

At Paradigm Doulas, we are committed to improving perinatal and reproductive health outcomes through culturally responsive, trauma-informed doula training. In collaboration with United Way of Tarrant County and Trust Her, we developed and launched the Tarrant County Community Doula Program, an initiative designed to provide families with essential support from pregnancy through postpartum.

Through this initiative, we trained 120 doulas using our Certified Perinatal Coach™ curriculum, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to provide compassionate, evidence-based care. These doulas are now making a direct impact in their communities, helping to reduce perinatal health disparities and improve birth experiences for families in Tarrant County.

From October 2023 through July 2024, Paradigm Doulas trained 120 community doulas through three cohorts as part of the Tarrant County Community Doula Program in partnership with United Way of Tarrant County and Trust Her. Each seven-week training equipped participants with the tools to provide holistic, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care from pregnancy through postpartum. What makes this initiative especially powerful is its commitment to inclusivity, welcoming men, women, and non-gendered individuals into the doula profession.

Perinatal health does not impact only mothers and birthing people; it affects entire families. By training doulas of diverse backgrounds and identities, we ensure that fathers, partners, and families receive the care and guidance they need during one of life’s most transformative experiences. This inclusive approach shifts the narrative of perinatal health from a singular focus on the mother and birthing parent to a family-centered model that uplifts the entire support system.

Our doulas are not only providing emotional, physical, and informational support to mothers and birthing individuals, they are also empowering partners to advocate for their families, guiding families through postpartum recovery, and helping navigate healthcare systems. By prioritizing community-centered care, we are bridging the gap between families and the healthcare system, fostering healthier outcomes and stronger communities.

Through programs like these, we are building a new generation of birthworkers, one that reflects the diversity and strength of the families they serve. This model of care helps to address the perinatal health crisis, particularly in underserved communities, by offering consistent, compassionate, and culturally aligned support.
